Dormitory network upgrades: what’s coming and how you can help
The Pod-O-Lee network team is continually working to upgrade our dormitory network. Our goal is to bring a stable, reliable, and fast connection to your rooms. Here is an overview of what is happening and what you can expect in the near future. What we are planning and working on New access points in blocks D and E: We are planning to install new wireless access points (APs) in blocks D and E to improve Wi-Fi coverage and capacity. Installation dates and any brief outages will be announced in advance. New Ethernet cables: A wired connection is still the most stable option we have at the dormitory. We are arranging the purchase of a new batch of Ethernet patch cables. Once they arrive and are in stock, you will be able to pick them up from the televizors (our volunteer IT support staff) in your blocks. Does your laptop lack a LAN port? Many newer ultrabooks and MacBooks no longer have a standard RJ-45 port for an Ethernet cable. If you want to enjoy the full speed of a wired connection in your room – for gaming, downloads, or video calls without lag – all you need is an external USB or USB-C Ethernet adapter. Our televizors can also help you connect it. Example from Alza: a USB-C to RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet adapter. An important request: interference and personal hotspots Good dormitory Wi-Fi takes teamwork. Radio spectrum is a shared medium, and Wi-Fi offers only a limited number of non-overlapping channels that all nearby devices must share. Our data shows dozens of mobile hotspots and private routers broadcasting nearby. This leaves the dormitory access points with less airtime, resulting in slower and less stable connections for everyone. A personal hotspot in your room uses airtime on the same channel as nearby devices. It makes the connection worse not just for you, but also for your neighbours, often through walls. Please turn off your personal hotspot. This will reduce congestion and make the network faster and more stable for everyone. If you need to connect more than 3 devices over Wi-Fi or 1 device over Ethernet, please contact our network team at admin@pod.cvut.cz. Thank you for your cooperation and patience! The Pod-O-Lee club

New grill and seating area
Hi Podoláci, as you may have already noticed, we have not been idle over the summer and have made a few improvements. We now have a new grill and a whole new seating area around it! To keep everything in this condition for as long as possible (ideally for several more years), please treat the equipment with care and do not move the benches, tables, or the grill itself. Come and try out the new space right away – join us for the Summer Party on 8 August 2026! We look forward to seeing you at the barbecue. Have a great summer, Katka, chair of the Pod-O-Lee club
About our club
The Pod-O-Lee dormitory club was established in 1998 and is currently the second-largest club in the CTU Student Union. It is run entirely by student volunteers who gain valuable experience while improving life at the dormitory.
International students are welcome too, so feel free to contact us. You can join the club management, IT team, Pod-O-Gym team, PR or HR team, and many other groups.
Besides providing an internet connection, we offer plenty of ways to enjoy your free time. You can visit our music rehearsal room, Pod-O-Gym, Pod-O-Lab workshop, and many other club facilities.
We also organise various social, cultural, and sporting events.
The Podolí dormitory is owned by the Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU) and managed by the CTU Service Facilities Administration (SÚZ ČVUT).
If you find a defect anywhere in the Podolí dormitory, report it through the defect reporting system in ISKAM (Accommodation → Defect log).
In Hydra, you can check your paid memberships and see which of your devices have network access.
If you have a problem paying for club membership, email platby@pod.cvut.cz.
You may also find the freshman’s guide useful.
Whether you need advice, want to keep up with dormitory events, or would simply like to meet new people, join our Facebook group: Pod-O-Lee Official.
Join your block’s Facebook group too, so you do not miss information about block activities: Block A, Block B, Block C, Block D, Block E, Block F.
First day
Shortly before the start of each semester, SÚZ ČVUT organises the main dormitory check-in period. You will also find our information booth there, where we can explain how the club works.
Check-in can take some time. Long queues usually form outside the accommodation office, which is accessible from reception. Ask the reception assistant for a queue number when you arrive.
Bring the following to the accommodation office:
- ID or passport
- a small photo for your dorm card
- proof of enrolment (only if you are not a CTU student)
You can also insure valuable belongings against theft. Reception will provide a form on which to list the items. We strongly recommend insuring at least your laptop or computer and any other valuable belongings.
If you move in outside the main check-in period, feel free to visit or contact the club members on your block (Contacts).
